THE FORMAT: FLEET RACES AND MATCH RACING

The 37th America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta will follow a dynamic format, consisting of up to eight fleet races where every team competes simultaneously on the same course. The real test comes on day three when the top two boats from the fleet racing series face off in a thrilling match race to determine the ultimate champion. Scott emphasises the importance of strong starts and strategic manoeuvring, especially in the fleet racing format. The difficulty of overtaking in the pack underscores the significance of being in the top group after the initial leg. Additionally, the shift in mentality required for teams advancing to the match race adds a layer of complexity to this high-stakes competition.
