Baked Apple Ingredients

You’ll need just four ingredients to make this easy baked apple recipe:

  • Apples: Choose a crisp, firm apple variety, such as Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, or Honeycrisp.
  • Brown sugar: Dark brown sugar lends warmth and sweetness to each baked apple.
  • Butter: Butter adds richness and flavor.
  • Cinnamon: The warm and cozy baked apples are spiced with ground cinnamon.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt takes the flavor up a notch, but it won't make the baked apples taste salty.

How Do You Bake Apples?

Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect when you make homemade baked apples:

  1. Remove the core of each apple, leaving a well.
  2. Stuff each apple with a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Place the apples in a baking dish and top with butter.
  4. Bake until the sugar begins to caramelize and the apples are tender.

How Long Do You Bake Apples?

In an oven preheated to 350 degrees F, the apples should be perfectly baked after 40-45 minutes (20 minutes covered with foil, 20-25 minutes uncovered). You’ll know they’re ready to remove from the oven when the sugar is caramelized and the apples are tender.

Serving Tip

These baked apples are the perfect dessert as-is. However, a scoop of vanilla ice cream is never a bad idea.

How to Store Baked Apples

Store your leftover baked apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. Reheat gently in the oven.

“Wonderful dessert,” raves Tomohiro Nakagawa. “I added white wine and raisins!”

“This recipe was delicious,” according to ladywillpower01. “I only had Cortland apples, so I cut down on the brown sugar to two teaspoons. This is now my go-to baked Apple recipe!”

“This recipe is very similar to how my mother used to make it,” says Lauren. “I used Granny Smith apples and the ingredients as written. I did, however, add an extra 10 minutes to the cooking time because I like a softer apple.”
