Overview of the Wine
PODERE POGGIO SCALETTE became an autonomous wine-producing estate in 1991 when Vittorio Fiore and his wife Adriana Assjè di Marcorà acquired several plots of land and a rural building on the hill of Ruffoli in the township of Greve in Chianti, in the very heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. The property came from the division of an heredity and the sale of proprety consisting of old stone farmhouses, vineyard land, olive groves, pasture land, and woods which had been abandoned years previously after the death of the former owner.

The estate is directly run by son Jurij (a graduate of the School of Viticulture and Oenology of Beaune in Burgundy) with the overall supervision of Vittorio. The marketing of the wines, instead, has been assigned to son Alessandro for export markets.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
It offers gorgeous aromas and flavors of black cherry and currant with freshly ground coffee, toast and hints of spring florals.  Soft, velvet texture. Black cherry and spice, leather and oak. A medium body. Great on the nose and forward, expansive flavors but without a very long finish.

94 Points - James Suckling
A red with energy and focus for this ripe and dry vintage with dried-berry, cedar and leaf character to the hints of citrus. It’s full-bodied, yet lightly austere, which gives it character and tension. Tight tannins. Give it some time to soften; better after 2022.

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Enologist Vittorio Fiore is the face behind Podere Poggio Scalette. The 2017 Capogatto is a hot vintage blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. This wine comes roaring out of the glass with thick layers of black fruit and lots of pretty intensity. The aromas are front-loaded in the 2017 to be sure, and wine follows through with a less formal, mid-weight impact to the palate.

93 Points - Vinous
Capogatto is Poggio Scalette's blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2017 is bright, perfumed and light on its feet. Readers will find a wine that is driven by Greve and the house style more than by a flavor profile most readers would associate with Bordeaux varieties. Even so, there is plenty to like. The 2017 is a very pleasing wine with soft contours, bright acids and fine balance.
