Ford has been named the most-recalled auto manufacturer in 2022, according to a dataset released by the United States Department of Transportation on Monday.

The American carmaker issued a total of 67 recalls in 2022, a full 22 recalls more than the next highest manufacturer, Volkswagen, which filed 45 recalls. Daimler Trucks follows closely behind at 42 recalls in 2022, with Stellantis coming up fourth at 38 recalls. Rounding out the top five with 35 recalls is Forest River Inc., a recreational vehicle manufacturer.

Out of those 67 recalls, 12 of them are powertrain related, according to the DOT. A further eight recalls had to do with "back over prevention," which usually relates to back-up cameras or sensors malfunctioning. Other causes for recalls at Ford include electrical system faults, fuel system problems, and airbag malfunctions. The full list of 2022 Ford recalls can be seen here.

Ford has been dealing with quality issues for years. It's struggled to launch new models on time and recalls, complaints, and warranty claims have weighed heavily on service departments, driving down the company's bottom line. In a recent interview, CEO Jim Farley said fixing quality was the brand's "number one priority," and that "it’s going to take several years" to make it right.
