8 New Business Ideas Using GPT-4

March 15, 2023

OpenAI just announced that it is releasing its updated model, GPT-4.

It’s an improvement on ChatGPT’s model (GPT-3.5) that took the world by storm in the past few months, and is OpenAI’s most advanced model made available to the public. Here are some of its new capabilities:

  • It’s a lot smarter: GPT-4 scores in the top 90th percentile for the Uniform Bar Exam, while ChatGPT scored in the 10th percentile.
  • It can handle bigger prompts: GPT-4 is able to handle over 25,000 words of text in the prompts you provide.
  • It accepts images as inputs: For example, you could take a picture of ingredients on a table and ask GPT-4 what possible meals you could cook with those ingredients.

With new capabilities, come new opportunities. GPT-4 has opened up a whole new world of AI-powered business ideas and opportunities that were simply not possible with the previous model.

Here are 8 business ideas that you could start using GPT-4 and its new features.

1. Fitness App

Imagine an app where you can upload a picture of yourself and your fitness goals. The app uses GPT-4’s image input capabilities to analyze your photos. After analyzing your photos, the app can show you the exact fitness and nutrition regime you need to follow to reach your goals.

An AI-powered fitness app could even analyze photos of you performing various exercises and provide personalized tips on how to improve your form.

This kind of service would be an inexpensive alternative for people looking for fitness guidance, but who don’t have the time or resources to work with a personal trainer.

2. Fashion Styling App

Have you ever seen an outfit on Instagram or on TV that you wish you could also wear? A fashion app powered by GPT-4 would allow users to upload photos of outfits they like the look of, and get recommendations on how to replicate the look.

The app could provide links to websites where you can buy similar-looking garments. You could even ask users for their budget (less than $50, for example), and provide recommendations that are within that budget.

3. Pokedex for Anything

With GPT-4, you can essentially build your very own Pokedex. If you don’t know what a Pokedex is, it’s a device in the Pokemon series that allows you to scan a Pokemon and it identifies exactly what it is. Similarly, GPT-4 allows us to take pictures to identify objects in the real world.

Here are a few real-life use cases:

  • Plant identification: Let’s say you’re on a walk and you come across a flower or plant you’ve never seen before. Whip out your GTP-4 plant identification app, and it will tell you exactly what the plant is and all the information you need to know about it (including whether its poisonous, and where to buy one for your home or garden).

  • Insect identification: This app would allow users to take a picture of insects or pests in their home or garden. GPT-4 would analyze the photos and provide information on the species and recommendations for control and prevention.

  • Dog identification app: How many times have you seen a cute doggo and wondered what breed it is? Take a quick picture with your phone, and you’ll have the answer in seconds without having to ask the owner!

4. Interior Design App

Users upload pictures of their room, and a GPT-4-powered app provides personalized interior design recommendations based on the user’s preferences, style, and budget.

The app could provide room layout and design recommendations, such as where to place furniture, what color scheme to use, and what decor would look good in the room.

A similar app could be used to provide gardening tips for your garden, and renovation ideas to improve your home.

5. Antique / Collectible Appraisal App

This app would be Gary Vee’s dream. Let’s say you’re at a garage sale or flea market. You see a vintage watch that looks like it could be expensive. You take a picture of it with your price appraisal app, which uses GPT-4 to analyze the photos and provides a valuation based on historical sales data, rarity, and condition. The app values it at $10,000, and you manage to convince the owner to sell it to you for $1,000.

An app that allows you to quickly identify and value any antique or collectible would be insanely valuable for anyone in the business of buying and selling antiques.

6. Artwork App

Have you ever seen a piece of art in a museum or book and wanted to know more about it? Simply take a picture of the artwork in our AI-powered app, and you will learn everything you need to know about that piece of artwork.

The app could identify the artist, the style, and the history of the artwork. It could show you every other piece of art by that particular artist. It could show you what that artwork would look like in your own home.

You could even integrate the app with online marketplaces, galleries, and artists’ websites to allow users to purchase artworks directly through the app.

7. Damage Assessment

If you own a car, it’s likely someone has damaged your car before (or you have damaged someone else’s). If you take the damaged car to a mechanic, then you are probably going to have to pay whatever they tell you to. More often than not, they overcharge you.

With an AI-powered damage assessment app, a user would take pictures of their car damage from different angles and upload them to the website. The images would be processed by GPT-4, which would identify the type and extent of the damage. The app could provide an estimated cost of repair which you can give to your mechanic and insurance company.

This kind of app wouldn’t only be helpful for individuals who have been involved in a car accident, but would also be extremely valuable for an insurance company to streamline the claims process and reduce the time spent on manually assessing damage claims.

8. Language Learning App

A language learning app powered by GPT-4 would allow users to take pictures of objects that they would like to learn the name of in their target language.

Imagine you are trying to learn Spanish. You go to the supermarket and you see an apple, but don’t know how to say it in Spanish. You take a picture of it, and the app (using GPT-4’s image recognition capability) identified the object in the picture and tells you it is a ‘manzana’.

The app could then provide some additional contextual information about the apple, such as how to pronounce it, and related verbs and vocab (such as “apples are my favorite fruit”).

This app would provide a much more fun alternative for beginners to start building up their vocabulary than looking for the word in a dictionary.

Closing Thoughts

At the time of writing, GPT-4’s image recognition capability has not yet been made available to the public. As such, we can’t yet know how accurate and powerful the image recognition capabilities will be.

It’s likely that the GPT-4 model would need additional training to perform any of the tasks mentioned above with a high level of accuracy that would be useful for users.

However, you can be sure that businesses and entrepreneurs are taking note. It won’t be long until you see apps like these being released. If you act quickly enough, it could be you that builds them.
