Have you ever wondered how you would get yourself out of a dangerous situation unharmed?
Or perhaps you’re one out of every three women globally* who have experienced a sexual assault and are looking to feel strong in your mind, body and spirit.
Whether you have felt this way or you’re looking to bring a self defense training program to your organization, here are all of the reasons why that is a GREAT idea!
1. Most people who come to my courses have never taken any prior self defense training. That is way too many people who have never been taught to protect themselves and avoid danger when possible.
2. Besides learning the physical moves, self defense training is a great way to empower others. Learning how to use your voice and body powerfully is a unique experience that deepens your mind/body connection, heightens your awareness and enhances your confidence.
3. Self defense training can literally save your life. I have heard from dozens of people personally who have been able to avoid an attack or successfully get away from an attacker by using basic self defense techniques.
People often ask me how I got started…
I spent over a decade of my life training in Hapkido, a Korean style martial art, at World Martial Arts Center in NYC. As many of my mentors and teachers there did, I spent countless hours learning from the best, honing my skills, teaching classes and soaking in as much knowledge as possible.
Women in my life
…began to ask me how they can learn self defense but without the whole spending- years-of-their-life-in-a-martial-arts-studio part. They just wanted the down and dirty basics and to feel safe while commuting to work, dating, and heading out for a night on the town.
Stilettos & Self Defense was born circa 2009 to fill that need. The name is a nod to one night many moons ago when I was grabbed from behind on the street. I managed to scare off my attacker with my how-dare-you attitude and new found skills, and I chased him wearing my favorite stilettos. The rest is history…
The media got word of Stilettos & Self Defense, and I had the pleasure of teaching it to Carrie Fisher, Hoda Kotb, Jenny McCarthy, Bethenny Frankel, Marie Osmond and millions of women around the country who watched from their tv’s or came to live seminars.
I’ve hung up my stilettos and now teach She Warrior Self Defense for women and gender-neutral Personal Safety and Self defense seminars for all.
whether learning virtually or in person, Here’s what you’ll learn:
You will have an enhanced sense of confidence in being able to stick up for yourself and protect yourself both mentally and physically.
You will have more tools in your tool belt when it comes to personal safety and defending yourself against bullying, harassment and assault.
You will have more choices of what to do when faced with feelings of fear and vulnerability.
You may even feel like an ass-kicking machine!
You can bring She Warrior Self Defense to your office, conference or studio virtually or in person in the following formats:
This is the quickest option where participants will learn the basics of mental self defense, learn and practice physical moves and be on their way feeling empowered and confident. This is the most common training for conferences and virtual events. I recommend allowing for the full 90 minutes to include ample time for Q&A. However, if time is of the essence, we can power through the session in 75 minutes. Sessions can be tailored for specific organizations and/or industries including and not limited to: women’s events, AAPI safety, D&I events, travel industry safety and real estate professionals.
*The name can be tailored to your organization to be inclusive of all genders.
This is for those who want to go deep and fully embrace their badassery. They want to spend time discussing situational awareness and intuition, setting clear boundaries and powerfully communicating them. This training will include more emotional self defense and be an interactive and transformative experience to hold powerful, guided conversations around boundary setting and owning our inner power. This is not your mother’s self defense class. This is next level!
*This training is best for in person events.
A. After air, water, shelter, and food in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is the need to be safe. People want to feel safe and somehow in control of their safety. Self defense training gives people the awareness, knowledge, self esteem, attitude, confidence and choices to take control of their safety as much as they can.
A: This course can be given one of two ways. It can be held as an interactive workshop for smaller groups of 5-50 people. Everyone will get hands on attention. This course can also be given on a larger scale in an auditorium (100+ people) with a stage. The participants will have less interaction with each other. They will get out of their seats and practice strikes and they will watch demonstrations of escaping holds and grabs.
A: No. The course is taught slowly and carefully. All participants agree to use control while practicing techniques. Nobody has ever been hurt in my seminars.
A: A wide open space will do. The number of people you intend to have present will determine the size of the room you will need.
A: No. Because of the nature of the ground work, having a nice clean floor that participants won’t mind sitting on is helpful!
A: Self-defense advocates and instructors know that rape and sexual assault is always the fault and responsibility of the perpetrator, and NEVER the fault or responsibility of the target, victim, or survivor. Period. Also, remember that self defense is for everyone and not gender specific. With that said, 9 out of 10 sexual assault victims are female, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
A: I am trained in HapKiDo, a Korean style martial art. I spent 10 years training at the World Martial Arts Center in NYC and earned my 3rd degree black belt there.
