The emotional impact of hair shedding

The emotional impact of hair shedding

It’s normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day, but finding excess strands in the shower drain and your hairbrush, or on your pillowcase and clothing can de distressing for women and men alike. Many factors can accelerate hair shedding, including stress, recent illness (including Covid), hormonal fluctuations, childbirth (post-partum hair loss is very common), weight loss, certain medications and more—and in many cases increased hair shedding is temporary. The hair loss associated with genetically-based male and female pattern balding can be permanent, however early intervention can help slow or even reverse its progression.

For many women and men, hair plays a significant role in self-esteem, as well as the image they present to the world each and every day. Hair loss can take a profound emotional toll in the form of depression, anxiety, and avoiding social situations. If you find yourself concerned about hair loss or hair shedding and it is affecting your confidence or day-to-day life, it’s best to seek the help of a dermatologist who can identify the cause and suggest the appropriate treatment.

Remember, all healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp—and SEEN has both covered while being kind to your skin. Created by Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Iris Rubin, SEEN is committed to optimizing hair-follicle health and supporting healthy hair growth. SEEN also believes in providing proof that the brand’s patented breakthrough hair care formulations have a positive impact on the health of the hair and scalp (as well as the skin).

A recently completed clinical trial assessing the effects of using SEEN Fragrance-Free Shampoo and Fragrance-Free Conditioner as a regimen found that SEEN reduced hair shedding by 44% (compared to control)*. Dr. Maryanne Senna, former Co-Director of the Harvard Hair Loss Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital conducted the trial and says, “Hair care products can contribute to hair shedding by clogging the hair follicle, or by the irritating and allergenic ingredients they contain, and all of this can impact scalp health. This study has provided evidence that the use of non-comedogenic and non-irritating products can improve scalp health and hair health.”

Dr. Rubin says, “It’s incredible to have proof that using non-medicated hair care products that are formulated to optimize the health of the hair follicles and the scalp as a whole can provide improvement in hair shedding. SEEN’s Shampoo and Conditioner regimen is the only one we know of to demonstrate statistically significant reduction in shedding in a randomized, controlled trial at Harvard.”

While SEEN is not a medicated treatment for hair loss, the clinical results prove that SEEN can significantly reduce hair shedding in female pattern hair loss. Switching to Fragrance-Free SEEN Shampoo and Conditioner promotes scalp and hair health, delivering stronger, smoother, healthier hair with less shedding.
