One of the worlds largest Pride parades in the world just dropped some major details on all the upcoming Pride Month events going on this year.
NYC Pride revealed this years event will feature five grand marshals: social media star Ts Madison; transgender former NCAA swimmer Schuyler Bailar; ACLU attorney Chase Strangio; “Saturday Night Live” cast member Punkie Johnson; and Okra Project Executive Director Dominique Morgan.
Meanwhile, transgender actor Angelica Ross, best known for her role in FX’s “Pose,” will return for the second time as co-host and as a performer.
Organizers previously announced the official theme for 2022, “Unapologetically Us,” as the kick-off to this year’s festivities.
“NYC Pride is acknowledging that struggle and the resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community. Many have focused on exploring their true selves, coming out to the world with vibrant, loving hearts and souls open to the public - no matter how scary, unsure, or vulnerable it might have been,” says the official website.
“Others continue their journeys of finding a true sense of self and inner peace. The entire community should celebrate each and every person’s story and provide support so everyone can feel happy, healthy, and safe being Unapologetically Us.”
Additionally, this year will see NYC Pride organizing other events for those celebrating Pride Month. This includes PrideFest, an LGBTQ street fair, the Pride Island music festival and Youth Pride.

This is the first time since the pandemic started in 2020 that New York City’s Pride programming has returned to a fully in-person lineup.
This year will be the first time in two years that NYC Pride returns in person for a traditional march. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the event was cancelled in for the first time since its founding in June 1970. In 2021, the festivities went virtual with limited in-person attendance.
“The past few years have been incredibly challenging for New York. Reviving the local economy is of vital importance, and tourism has long been the lifeblood of the city,” said Sue Doster, NYC Pride Co-Chair.
“NYC Pride has always been an important economic catalyst for the city, bringing in people from across the country to celebrate. We’re thrilled to be able to finally invite everyone back.”
