CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. — A Colorado coffee company is reaching new heights.
On Wednesday, 250 servings of instant coffee were aboard a SpaceX rocket headed to the International Space Station. It was made by First Ascent Coffee, which is based out of Crested Butte.
The roastery specializes in making high-quality instant coffee packets, meant to be brought on outdoor adventures.
The SpaceX and NASA Crew-5 mission successfully launched from the Kennedy Space Station in Florida at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The rocket is expected to reach the International Space Station Thursday afternoon.
NASA first reached out to the company almost one year ago, according to the Denver Gazette. They sent in samples and eventually, an order from the agency came in.
The coffee that is on the rocket is their Dawn Patrol coffee, a dark roast blend that comes in single-serve instant packets or bulk instant coffee.
